Prince ‘The Internet Is Over’- Still on the cutting edge, or has he just fallen off?

Always the provocateur, his royal Purpleness has always made leaps and bounds towards changing the way we look at music and the industry which makes it. His latest maneuver no different, Prince looks to essentially, give away his next album, granted you buy a publication which carries his latest interview.
I have long admired Mr. Nelson for his willingness to challenge the bounds of acceptance and for always pushing the envelop. One has to wonder if and how this latest escapade will inspire a new movement in how music is viewed and distributed, even if it is by opening up people to creative thought.

I love Prince. He isn’t the only one using this technique to distr his new music. Great deal for the mag, too. Ill buy it! And I’ll end up loving them, too.
I’ll also be giving away new mp3′s from both of my albums on a weekly basis to everyone who signs up on my site. It just shows my fans I’ve got love for them and gives them a reason to be in touch with me through my site. After all, any kind of communication, whether mass or intimate, digital or physical, is about contact, the give-and-take. It’s all about the LOVE, people.
Love,
Juliet

Juliet,
You are very correct on your statements regarding communication and contact. As a musician or any other business, your ability to ENGAGE your audience is your key asset in building a lasting relationship.
Prince has nailed it right on with his latest quip. He is addressing the proliferation of music being taken as a free commodity and the watering down of the material artists are offering. By making such bold statements, he has energized a media that is quickly becoming stale from the numbness it generates in its viewers. We are force fed soo much information, it has become hard to cut through the din and clutter. Prince has managed to create a stir, as he usually does, and commanded the attention of the world. I am sure he already has a solid plan in place to capitolize on that attention.

We are connecting in more ways daily, but are we truly GROWING any close as a global community, much less as a local community. The more we “connect” electronically, the less genial we become. Real connection requires Real, human, to human response, and in this way, we are ALL dying a slow death via the internet.
